What’s on My Nightstand::January Wrap-Up

I’ve noticed something. I tend to read a lot in January. Last January I read a total of eight books, and while I haven’t gotten anywhere near that number so far this month, I’m in a nice little rhythm. Maybe it’s just that I don’t read much at all in November and December, so reading anything at all in January is an improvement. Whatever the explanation, I’ll take it. 🙂

So far this month I have read the following (links are to my reviews):

Pat of Silver Bush by L.M. Montgomery
The Light Princess by George MacDonald (audiobook)
Mistress Pat by L.M. Montgomery
Bertie’s War by Barbara Tifft Blakey
The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith (review forthcoming, probably tomorrow!)

Right now I’m taking my time through When Children Love to Learn: A Practical Application of Charlotte Mason’s Philosophy for Today, a compilation of articles edited by Elaine Cooper. I’m also enjoying The Hunger Games, and I have a feeling that given a little bit of spare (or not-so-spare) time, I’ll knock this one out in a hurry. It’s good.

I also managed to read through the book of Genesis this month, and while this is not that much of a feat really, I feel like I gained some new insights. Currently I’m behind on my plan to read the Bible through in a year, but I refuse to be discouraged. I’ll catch up!

If February turns out to be half the month January has been for me, I should have a lot to report next month, too!

You don’t need to rush to read Catching Fire, because it’s sort of a cliff-hanger, and book 3 doesn’t come out until August. So, if I hadn’t read it, I’d wait a bit, and then pick up book 3.
